Should PM be of technical orientation?
Project Manager does not have to be a technical person (eg does not have to know how to program), but as a person who collaborates with developers, designers and QA must have a good understanding of the technologies and services used, UX and UI principles, etc. Therefore, any previous experience and knowledge of the technologies we use – comes in very handy, but is not a prerequisite. A person who wants to be a successful PM must certainly be open, ready and eager for continuous learning about technologies, CMS, services, SEO, etc.
What skills and qualities should a PM have?
The job of Project Manager requires that a person can keep an eye on the bigger picture (* what our goal is – how far we are currently *) and at the same time manage a larger number of tasks on a daily basis (* prioritize, organize yourself and others, delegate … *) which bring us closer to the set goal. Also, it is necessary to manage the expectations of clients and the project team on a daily basis (* regarding deadlines, scope of work, budget … *). Excellent communication skills and assertiveness are essential for successful management of team expectations and performance, and for all situations when something does not go according to plan … flexibility, resistance to stress and patience.
Who will you work with?
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with almost everyone in the organization. You will work with colleagues from Sales after they close the job and hand over the project, Product manager and Business Analyst will provide you with documentation and support for technical solutions during project preparation, you will work with designers on design, and when everything is ready for development – then you will primarily work with your Developer and QA team. In the development phase, you will mostly work with the Developer Team Leader, who will be your right hand on technical issues and team development.
What approach do we use when managing projects?
We use a hybrid approach and adapt to what is best for the project. We have a defined internal project development process that we continuously optimize. We always strive to have well-defined expectations, documentation and design, ie scope, budget and deadlines before development starts. Also, we usually work in smaller iterations (sprints) to be able to appreciate client feedback and validate the direction of development.
What would an induction look like?
After getting to know the organization and how it works in the ACKE, the mentor would be followed by a gradual introduction to the projects and platform. We strive to answer all questions in advance and provide all the necessary tools and information. And if you need something extra, your mentor, team and colleagues from HR will come to you.
